CHARACTER INFORMATION

NAME: Donatello
CANON: Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2018)
CANON REFERENCE: Turtlepedia here! It doesn't include the movie canon and tends to take some things played off as gags in the show as hardcore in-stone canon, but it's a pretty good source.
CANON POINT: Post-movie
CRAU HISTORY: N/A
AGE: 16 yrs old, both physically and mentally.
APPEARANCE: Donnie is a humanoid soft-shelled turtle. here is a decent picture. He has purple square/rectangle markings on his shoulders and hips/upper thighs, which glow when he's using his mystic powers. Most notable is his shell is soft and leathery, which is different from his other canon iterations where he's a hard-shelled turtle.
CONTRACT PAYMENT: Being returned safely home!

QUESTIONNAIRE:

What does family mean to you and who do you consider a part of your family?
IC: Depends on the definition you choose to employ. Biologically speaking, 'family' is a collective of individuals who share a certain number of similar or identical genetic markers. Useful for medical history, blood transfusions, organ compatibility- the obvious.

Of course, there's the societal definition of family, which various region to region. Emotional and social bonds that come with their own expectations completely set apart from birth and origin, though usually harder to define. Familial units are closer than friend units, with members usually living together in the same domicile, and subscribing to a hierarchy that usually, but not always, revolves around birth order for siblings, with parental units being directly responsible for their offspring. Grandparents, great-grandparents, etc are treated sort of like the retired CEO who is still on the board, but doesn't hold majority voting power. Again, this varies, as many cultures employ their own unique kinship system that may or may not include child-rearing, affinity by marriage, and/or equal division of labor.

-Are you enjoying this? I'm very much enjoying this. It's about time someone listens when I give my Don Discusses, trademarked.

OOC: It should be noted that Donnie sometimes likes to pretend as if he has no bonds whatsoever with his family (or that they're not really that important to him) but he is just as devoted to his brothers, his dad, and April as the rest of them are to him. He can be solitary sometimes and/or seem like they're kind of a nuisance, but he still voluntarily spends time with them instead of by himself, seeks out April for fun or help, desperately wants his father's approval even while acting like whatever he just like, lives with us or something.

How do you react to betrayal? How severe must a betrayal be for you to consider it such?
IC: All betrayal is betrayal! The severity of the betrayal just changes the severity of the punishment. There's no arbitrary sliding scale that determines how much betrayal actually counts, is this a trick question?

OOC: He means it, too. Any violation of his trust is a betrayal no matter how small, but he does react to betrayals (usually) appropriately. The punishment fitting the crime, etc. If it's something small or if the betrayer makes it up to him in what he deems a sufficient manner, Donatello is willing to let bygones be bygones. However, if he's been betrayed and he doesn't think the punishment has been sufficiently served, he will keep that grudge on the back burner for the rest of his fkn life.

What is the most frightening thing you've ever done? What part of you did it test the most?
IC: Oh, god, the ship. The ship. It was likewise the most incredible and beautiful thing that's ever happened to me as well, but getting there, the process? Torture.

OOC: Donnie isn't exactly a germaphobe, but he VERY MUCH is not a fan of touching or being touched. He hates it when strangers touch him or get too close, hell he doesn't even like it all that much when his brothers do it if he's not expecting it and/or he doesn't have the bandwidth for it. Donnie will initiate touch sometimes (more with Mikey than with the others) but very much on his terms, for the length of time he finds acceptable, and the kind of touch he is willing to engage in.

The Krang ship required extremely nasty gross INVASIVE all over touch, because it was icky slimy bio-computer tentacle shit that Donnie had to physically submerge himself into, and he hated every grotesque second of it. After that he was an all-powerful spaceship bio computer, which rocked.

An oni of the Shuten Clan has gone completely berserk, and is going on a violent rampage through the city. You can't stop him, but you CAN lead him elsewhere, but you only have two choices: a road by a discotheque with a large crowd in front, or the nearby park that you do not know is unoccupied, and may have children present. What do you choose, and why?
IC: ...the park? Obviously. Why would you choose the venue that clearly is packed with people on the off-chance that the park may have occupants? Parks are more spread out besides; less chance of friendly fire, less chance of being seen. More room for explosions. Not that an explosion is guaranteed to happen, I'm just saying it's a possibility one should include in his calculations.

OOC: ....yeah pretty much. Donnie would also like to use his Big McHuge weapons and see what they can do and the park is better for that.

POWERS & ABILITIES:
  • Genius Intellect
Honestly, not much to nerf here. Donnie absorbs information at a phenomenal rate, has a photographic or near-photographic memory, and more specifically he applies that information and intelligence to his inventions. He is self-nerfed by being a stupid dumb teenager spaz and adrenaline junkie, who prefers to throw himself and his inventions screaming into battle rather than testing and re-testing until they work perfectly. Half of his creations end in explosions, and/or various other states of disrepair solely because they don't work good.

In this setting, his threshold will be automatically decided for him because no matter how super wow amazing smart he is, he's limited by what he can get his hands on. The show allows for a comically wide margin of what things a teenage boyturtle may feasibly source just because it's better TV, but whatever Donnie creates or invents in the game will be limited by the readiness of tools, equipment, and materials.

  • Donnie Techâ„¢
He makes...so much ridiculous stuff. A "tech-bo" that transforms into a veritable arsenal of any weapon/gun/etc someone could think of, a hover bike that collapses into a suitcase, a jetpack that also accommodates passengers; basically, anything that would make a good action figure accessory. He's created technology that has achieved, but is not limited to, the following: IQ alterations, flight, EXPLOSIVE flight, not-really-that-rudimentary AI, industrial bonding agents, a gigantic tank with detachable motorcycles- Donnie's technology, even the stuff he has with him all the time, is very OP so he's arriving with none of it.

He will have his phone with all its normal phone-related functions, his goggles which are basically just binoculars and do NOT let him see hidden mystic energy or see through glamour, and he will have his wrist computer that has been wiped and can't do much of anything. Maybe he will gain more SIMPLIFIED functions of various items upon receiving rewards, but nothing like what he has displayed in canon. It's way too world-breaking. Any requests for tech as a reward will be explained in depth.

  • Mystic Powers
Like the rest of his family, Donatello is able to harness mystic power/energy to perform near-miraculous feats. All of the brothers manifest these powers differently, but Donatello's is kind of like Green Lantern, if you're familiar with how that works. Basically if he can conceive the design and if he has an object he can use as a medium, he can make pretty much anything. This includes a huge arsenal that fires actual projectiles, rockets, shields, etc; however, Donnie's grasp of mystic powers is a lot weaker than his brothers'. He greatly prefers to use his tech above anything else, and really can only pull out the mojo when he's under great duress and/or when he's vibing hard with the rest of his family to lay the hurt on a bad guy. Even then, his powers tend to create what he can dream up, so the ceiling of that in canon is already whatever he can already invent if he had the time and means.

In the game, Donnie's powers are going to be severely dampened. The most he's going to be able to achieve, both at first and without any alterations via rewards, is going to be MAYBE turning a stick into a regular bo/staff and MAYBE making a weak shield to protect his soft shell. Since he won't have his battle shells with him he's going to be very insecure and nervous about going out in public (he literally only takes it off to sleep), but he's going to have to train up to have a sustainable shield for his shell. He won't be able to achieve it right away, at any rate.

    SUITABILITY:
RotTMNT is a kid's show, but the TMNT franchise as a whole spans a lot of demographics. For things of a more adult nature (violent crime, drugs, etc) I would lean more towards realism and assume that because Donnie is like uh, a somewhat crime-fighting mutant teen in New York, he is not wholly unfamiliar with such concepts. I don't have any plans to have him work in a meth lab or anything like that.

Regarding things of a sexual nature, that is already not much my bag and I intend to avoid it. Puppy dog crushes, etc are ok. Handholding or cheek-kissing, sure. More than that is EXTREMELY unlikely and not really welcome on my end anyhow. Donnie canonically shows a kind of cheeky romantic interest in a couple characters (cute but mean is apparently his Type) but no matter how much he flirts it doesn't even begin to approach explicit and neither will I.

    FACTION SUITABILITY:
THE SHUTEN CLAN: Surprisingly enough, the concept of this faction doesn't entirely disagree with Donatello. In a matter-of-fact sort of way, he does agree that strength is a big factor in determining how something operates. "History is written by the victors," and such. However practical he is about it though, the crowd itself would not mesh well with him. His type of might is cerebral over physical, and though the ideals of supporting your community (because you are the top dog) sort of align with how he and his family view their 'obligation' to look after New York, it's still pretty divorced. Less so because of the yakuza part, and more because Donnie thinks a swaggering meathead isn't the best community leader, despite his acceptance of Raphael as the leader of their team. He did try to 'fix' Raphael's no-smarts-just-hit mentality once. ...or twice. Donnie could probably make it work if hard-pressed, but he wouldn't take many jobs (especially if they're mostly shakedown or intimidation detail) and he'd probably stay firmly on the bottom rung and stagnate before betraying someone or something or running away to hide.

THE TAMAMO CLAN: This one suits Donatello better, especially with that "cunning and insight" and "valuing freedom" stuff, HOWEVER...pleasure? Escape? That's not really Donatello's bag. He very much enjoys his freedom and loves to express himself, however he does it by hyper-fixating on building new toys for himself or his brothers, rather than engaging in laziness or hedonistic pastimes. Donatello may be unapologetically himself but he also very much values being in the here-and-now, working to create and grow and achieve. Stressful situations aren't always something to flee from; sometimes you think of the best inventions when you haven't slept in days and are on your fifth overhaul of the Tank. Though he'd probably fit in better here rather than the Shuten Clan, it's unlikely he'll be able to do much (especially since he wouldn't voluntarily get involved in anything regarding hospitality or sex work because he's A. underage/teetle and B. not interested in being nice to strangers for mediocre remuneration).

THE SUTOKU ALLIANCE: Knowledge grants power, YES! Donatello is ALL about that!! It also doesn't hurt that there are turtle-like creatures already in this alliance, so he won't feel so awkward or out of place (not that he usually is, throw a hoodie on that boy and he will walk right into human school). Though it's not exactly Donnie's passion to work in finance or utilities, it's definitely a shade more desirable than being a bouncer or a hotel clerk, and he'd be better at it besides. The culture doesn't seem to disagree with him, what with the underdog and "all are equal" nature to it, though he would absolutely turn his nose up at denying himself what he enjoys for the sake of piety or whatever else. Why wouldn't he dance if he wants to? He can leave his friends behind.

THE DEPARTMENT OF THE ENMA: Donatello definitely doesn't have a problem with aligning himself with authority figures. One could say it is strategically sound, however...he likes to pretend he has a bad boy image, cool and mysterious, can't be tamed by the Law. No, what probably would put Donnie off the most is the emphasis on ORDER. In fact, this faction would probably disagree with him the most just because of that. Donatello might seem like he'd enjoy things that make sense, things that work properly, given that he's a man of science but you see- he also enjoys challenging himself via science in new and creative ways. This ends up causing a lot of chaos, which he tends to revel in! Because he is conducting an experiment and one way or another he will learn something, regardless of whether or not it's good or bad! If he had to spend his days and nights enforcing someone else's dum-dum rules that he may or may not (most likely may) disagree with, and any challenge of any sort is met with swift correction? Fff. He would go full Raph and smashy-smash the system into little bits, or die trying.
